This very interesting film popped up in my Twitter feed this morning, posted by nuclear historian Alex Wellerstein, of the Nuclear Secrecy Blog. “Power of Decision” was produced by the US Air Force around 1957, probably as a training film of sorts, and shows a dramatization of the first few days of a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union against the United States, our retaliation, and apparent victory. It’s just shy of an hour long, but I think it’s worth watching the whole thing, especially if you’re a fan of good old fashioned Cold War atomic war stories. It doesn’t get any real-er than this.
