Atomic Attack, a teleplay written by David Davidson based on Judith Merril’s 1950 novel “Shadow on the Hearth,” aired live on the ABC network program Motorola TV Hour on May 18, 1954. The drama starts Phyllis Thaxton as a housewife who must guide what remains of her family through the aftermath of an H-Bomb attack on Manhattan. A Motorola radio (in closeup) broadcasts the CONELRAD announcements voiced by “What’s My Line” gameshow host John Daly. Other cast members include Walter Matthau (FAIL-SAFE) as a doctor and Patty McCormick (THE BAD SEED) as the daughter who plays with a stuffed animal soaked in radioactive rain.
